35 Years of Air Max

Since its inception in 2014, Air Max day has translated into a universally celebrated holiday for the sneakerhead community. While it was initially conceptualised as a marketing campaign by Nike, it has since become an incredibly significant time during the year for the Swoosh.

Equally important for us, Air Max Day is an opportunity to go above and beyond and celebrate the historic significance of the technology and the silhouettes it birthed; and that's exactly what we did in 2022. 

For this year’s Air Max Day celebrations, being the technology’s 35th year, we created a film featuring Air Max enthusiasts from our beloved community and an unforgettable event in Mumbai.

Kicking off, we asked the community members about what Air Max means to them, receiving incredibly passionate responses from each one. This was then followed by a short film featuring Riddhi Paul, Gokul, SoleCultureBengaluru and the uncontested king of Air Maxes in India, Kenny Macgregor. The film featured not only the collectors’ most prized Air Maxes, but also highlighted their love for the silhouettes and tech, their stories and their passion for the Swoosh.

Our celebrations continued in grand fashion with our Air Max Day event which was held at the Daily in Mumbai. This event was done in partnership with Svami Drinks, one of India’s favourite non-alcoholic beverage brands. Throughout the night, we had Air Max-themed games, special cocktails, a live DJ set by Aneesh Bhasin, the founder of Svami Drinks and a live raffle to give away a pair of Air Max 90s. The cherry on top was our exclusive Air Max Day tee, which dropped at the event and featured a bespoke graphic on the back.

Air Max Day is an incredibly important event in the sneaker community and for Superkicks as well. We will continue to push the narrative around the incredible lineage of Air Max and do more awesome stuff for the community around this heralded line of sneakers.
