50 years of Hip-Hop: the genre that conquered the world

The deeply rooted and era-spanning genre of Hip-Hop is turning 50 this year and we couldn’t be more excited about it. The culture that we are in and the community around us is both influenced and inspired by the genre and the subcultures and trends that it has birthed, whether that be sneakers, fashion, our language or even our beliefs. Not only has Superkicks been championing the Indian hip-hop scene since the brand’s inception, but we’ve kicked it into a whole new gear with new IPs and push to put the spotlight on independent Indian hip-hop artists.

Our latest efforts to continue being pillars of the music scene in India comes in the form of our collaboration with Budweiser to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop.

For this illustrious milestone, Superkicks has come together with culture titan Budweiser on a collaborative t-shirt drop that highlights and calls out elements that are associated with and instrumental to the history of hip-hop as a genre.

The base colour being a white is a deliberate choice and is a nod to the symbolic nature of white tees that are dotted throughout the timeline of the genre’s existence. From Jay-Z to 50 Cent, Eminem, Tupac, Jeezy and countless others, all have donned white tees consistently throughout their careers as the centrepiece of their outfits.

The graphics placed atop the tees consist of a Superkicks & Budweiser turntable inspired by the ones from Pioneer from back in the old days where DJs spun records in the block parties birthed the genre. The second t-shirt is an interpretation of a fictional album artwork that takes cues from classic rap albums throughout history and merges those influences into one seamless design, all connected via an eroded mixtape with Superkicks and Budweiser branding on it.

The two-pack t-shirt drop in collaboration with Budweiser is available exclusively at Superkicks stores and on www.superkicks.in now.
